Changes to the Executive

Due to the resignation of Executive Officers Arnold Blackstar in June 2009, and Fiona Haynes in August 2009, the ASPA Executive has modified its roster as follows:

Jason Anspach, Member-At-Large, will fulfill the remainder of Arnold's term as Executive Officer.

Chloe Corcoran, Member-At-Large, will fulfill the remainder of Fiona's term as Executive Officer.

Amelia Lowe, recent candidate for Member-At-Large, will fulfill the remainder of Jason's term as Member-At-Large.

Lane Foster, recent candidate for Member-At-Large, will fulfill the remainder of Chloe's term as Member-At-Large.

Therefore, your Executive for 2009-10 is now:

Dave Bocking - Past-President
Sandra Baptiste - Treasurer

ASPA Merit Audit Committee

As we reach the conclusion of the 2008-09 ASPA Merit Process, ASPA would
like to remind members of the importance of building and maintaining a
fair and equitable Merit System. As such, the Merit Audit Committee has
been established to review and provide oversight for the Merit System.

ASPA encourages all members to provide feedback on their experiences
with the Merit Processes within their Colleges or Divisions. Feedback
can be submitted, in confidence, to:

The External Review of Human Resources

As you may know, the University Board of Governors and Council have approved an external review of the Human Resources Division. ASPA encourages members to provide their individual input and feedback to the review committee. In addition, members of the ASPA Executive will be meeting in person with the review committee.

University Budget Cuts

In the wake of the significant budget cuts announced this week by the University, ASPA would like to remind members of some pertinent points of our Collective Agreement.

Our primary focus in times like these is on helping you know and exercise your rights. If we are unaware of your situation, we are unable to help. ASPA strongly encourages you to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have about your continued employment.

- Although large-scale layoffs are not planned or necessary to achieve the required budget cuts, it is anticipated that some positions will be lost.

- Article 16 of the Collective Agreement defines the processes and expectations surrounding layoffs.

Saskatchewan Set to Outperform National Trend

In the last week both the Saskatchewan government and the Star Phoenix reported that the Saskatchewan economy is still doing well compared to the rest of the country.

• Saskatchewan continues to have the lowest unemployment rate and the strongest year-over-year job growth in Canada. "The good news is - there are a lot more people working in Saskatchewan than there were at this time a year ago, and Saskatchewan's economy continues to weather the economic storm much better than every other province in Canada," Premier Brad Wall said.

Email Grievance Resolved

The outstanding grievance filed by ASPA regarding the use of the campus email services has been resolved. At issue was the access by ASPA to the University email system and network

In resolving the matter, ASPA agreed to use campus computer facilities as established by Article 21.1 of the Collective Agreement, and subject to the terms of the University's applicable policies - Use of University Property and Services, Computer Use, Electronic Mail (email), and Network Security.

Pay Ranges Clarified

The University of Saskatchewan and the Administrative and Supervisory Personnel Association (ASPA) are pleased to announce that they have reached agreement on clarified pay ranges for their new Collective Agreement. These pay ranges preserve the salary spread of each pay range as originally established in 2004.
